David,

> Great, I will look through the swedish catalog Elfa, to see what else
useful there is out there that I might need.

you could use the 74hc138 and some 74hc244 (tristate buiffer), this would
let you have 8*8 switchs (64 in total)
using 8 pins for switch input and 3 pins for switch select.

> I have been considering that shiftregister thingy to. Lots of
experimantation to be done.

yep, shift registers are also usefull...

> I did some reading over at AVRfreaks last night, so I noticed this! I also
found some stuff about using the ADCs as DACs.

yep, a whole bunch of stuff, its one of the more common uses for micros.

> Yepp, I found your article about midi usefull and interesting. The stuff
about running status etc was really good.

Thanks, Running status is the thing that catchs 99% of people new to MIDI
out... ask anyone on here who has done anything Midi for the first time what
caught them out..

> Yupp, atleast to laborate with, because I want some headroom.

if you're not afraid of SMD, Id recomend the Mega128-16, lots of power/ports
and extras..

> I think I will order this devkit when I get my paycheck. :)

always a good idea.

> Thank you. It looks like the project budget is running wild, but I am sure
it is worth it.

maybe, but once you have the first few tools it will get cheaper for
subsequent projects.
