[sdiy] PIC & AVR (was: My first big project)

Hi all,

I understand that the cheapness of parts and development
tools, as well as the number of web sites dedicated to them
and the amount of free code available on the net make the
PIC & AVR very attractive to DIYers.

But there seem to be a fair amount of other very attractive
uCs for DIY projects; for instance :
- the Philips XA family (actually a 16 bits version of the
80C32, running at 30 MHz)
- the Analog Devices microconverters family (ADuC812),
compatible with the 8051, with 12 bits ADC & DAC.

Elektor (always a good source of inspiration) has recently
published development boards & software for these little
things, and I'm presently seriously considering them for
some projects (like my project of including NN and
pattern recognition in a 30 bands vocoder).

I was also wondering if anyone has any experience with
these uCs...

Thanks,
JB
