Last time I checked, the Pentium chip was about 10 times the area of
the PowerPC chip.  (I guess you measure that in nano-acres.  :-) )  
And thus the Pentium dissipates about 10 times the power.  So the Mac
does require significantly less cooling.

(And note that Mac laptops generally have twice the battery life of PC
laptops.) 

Hmmm, is this still true?  A very quick check at the data sheets
tells me:
  1.8 GHz Pentium 4: 50 A at 1.6V = 80 watts
  1.0 GHz 750FX PowerPC: 3.6 watts

(I don't know the microprocessor market anymore, so my numbers are
probably not the best, but you get the idea...)
