The acoustic treated box/rack is the best approach. As mentioned before,
heat is a problem. The way to fix this is to use fans *at a remote location*
with ductwork made from the type of hoses used on cloths dryers connected to
the box. One set of fans blowing cool air in the top, another set sucking
warm air out the bottom. I've seen a unit made like this with a 24 inch box
fan running on its slowest speed (very quiet). The fans can be in the next
room if needed. You can also not make a box and just use the computer case
if it is designed in a way that allows the ductwork to connect. Filters
should be used in the intake portion so no dust etc. is blown into the box.
With enough fans, your whole rack can be enclosed. You also can convert a
closet by venting in/out through the walls. I have closets with little
windows that can be replaced. This allows walk in access!
