Hi Other Tim,
How about doing a simple circuit with an LM3914 bargraph chip? I think the
input voltage range is 1 volt, so you'd need to add an input divider or
processor for synth level signals. I think a little panel filler with a ten
segment bargraph would be cool. Also, you can use the LM3915 for audio
signals. Blinky lights are always cool. Keith Emerson kept an oscilloscope
in his giant Moog for years partially because the display looked cool.
