In the interest of finding out the answer to ground vs. neutral, I
will put forth my own straw man answer: ground doesn't (normally)
carry current, so it won't have an I^2R loss, and if it does need to
fulfill its safety function it is a dedicated fat current pipe, as
opposed to neutral which is already in use.
