[sdiy] What the heck is this?

in the past, i've been much more involved w/ building odd acoustic
instruments, rather than electric... i always try to tape the 2nd or third
time i sit down and try to play a new creation. that's when my ears are
freshest to meet the instrument on it's own terms, or when i'm most alive to
the particular sonic possibilities. as time passes, i become more
proficient at recreating past "successful" sounds/gestures, but it takes
real discipline to continue exploring. when i run out of new innovative
sounds, it's not usually that i've reached the instrument's inherent
limitations, but that my taste or memory starts imposing itself...
