I forgot:
the reason for a two point forward diode matching procedure is
that you want one point down in the "knee" of the kurve to
measure the exponential thing and the other at maximum application
current for the ohmic resistance effect and perhaps strong inversion
effects.

Most DVMs have a "diode measuring mode", one should know
what current will be used in this mode.
That could be a good starting point.
