Thank you so much for wasting bandwidth in
trying to teach me something I know since the
day I started to code in assembler, circa 1978...
I confess that it wasn't too clear in my original
question, but the kind of answer I actually
expected was a comparison between the various
uC families of the time (in number of uCycles
or uSec) to perform a signed or unsigned
16 x 16 bits multiply & accumulate, in regards
to the frequency clock, this MAC operation
being the core of most sound synthesis /
processing techniques.
At the moment, I'm considering the 16 bits
Philips XA family, which can perform a
16 bits MAC in 32 clock cycles, or 1.07 uSec
at 30 MHz (including samples reading), which
makes it quite attractive for FIR filter implementation
for instance...
And AFAIR Farnell sells the XA-S30 for about
25 euros...
Also, I know by experience that the possibility to
have 16 bits (or more) i/o ports can be a very
useful & attractive feature for this kind of applications...
Is my question sophisticated enough now to expect
some detailed answers and not being considered
as a newbie ?
Sorry for being quite rude, but I've been dealing
with idiots & morons in my job all week, and along with
the heatwave, it's getting on my nerves...so could
I get to the point at least once before the end of the
week ?
If there's a place where I'm expecting to meet only
experienced & educated ppl, it's this very list...
I know I could get this kind of info by simply
downloading datasheets of every uC family and
doing the comparison job myself, but nothing
replaces experience. And obviously several list
members have already approached this topic with
various experiences and different hardware...
