I've had success in making a "dual core" version. was able to do it with 
very few parts too, I think I'm starting to understand this "elegant design" 
thing ;-)
with that done, I am turning my attention to adding a version where each 
individual step has a height control.  my reasoning for this is based on the 
entirely different sound begotten using the LM3916 with it's dB scaling. it 
should be possible to dial in all sorts of harmonic variations with this 
version. of course this means it will be a sequencer at subaudible rates too 
;-)
nothing new on the schemo yet but when i get to it you will know.
