This would be possible, but I was coming from the opposite direction,
from complex to simple:
I had used my Interpolating Scanner as a waveshaper more often
than I had used it as a Crossfader, and so I wanted a simple
module for that waveshaping sound I got with the I. S. with
odd numbered pots completely turned on, and even numbered channels
completely turned off, because I found that even with such a simple
configuration I could get a wide variety of sounds just from
altering the input signal level and dc offset. This produced triangle
"pulses", but for such sync-like sounds rectangle pulses are just as
good.

Interesting. I only have read about this in Matthias Becker's book.
Too bad this site apparently requires latest versions of browser plugins
which I don't have right now.
