No way!  Your tube experiments are very interesting.

For myself, I worked with tubes when I was a kid doing ham 
radio.  Tremendously exciting fun.  At this point I wouldn't go back to 
doing tubes, but not because they're "useless crap", more because of a long 
list of other things to do.
