If the synth is able to "abuse" the velocity information as a panning
modulator and if JB doesn't need velocity for 'typical' modulation
destinations, then he should be fine.

In case the synth understands polyphonic aftertouch messages and can route
these to the panning section, these could also be used for polyphonic
panning.
