I second the thought about not using trimmers as panel controls. If you look
at the "Rotational Life" spec for most trimmers, it is in the 200 to 500
cycle range. Compare this to most panel mount pots (in the 10k to 50k cycle
range). One place I might like to use trimmers however, is to create a
module with a set of two or three alternate panel 'presets' ala CS-80 and
Simmons SDS-5. These controls wouldn't be fiddled with as much, but need to
be small and relatively inexpensive. Only problem is all the analog switches
required to switch in a new set of pots and controls.
