There are industrial (and possibly other) m/b's available that allow 
booting from compact flash cards. It's a techinque that is used by 
*BSD and Linux based firewall builders to provide a locked, fast 
booting os which also avoids having to install a hard drive. I'm sure 
the methodology could be expanded upon to provide plugable boot 
environments.
