[sdiy] Ungar soldering station help

Well, it's time to finally bring this one before the gurus...

I have an old Ungar 9900 soldering station that has served me extremely well until recently.

It has a model 9911 iron that has stopped working. Apparently what has happened is that the wires inside the iron that connect to the socket for the 2-prong heating element have broken (from the cable twisting). The assembly that holds the wires & socket does not seem to open in any way.

Does anyone have any ideas on how I can fix this or where I might be able to find a replacement part (or iron)?

This model has been discontinued by Ungar (now assimilated by Weller/Cooper) and doesn't seem to be available.

Please help... I really like this iron!

Thanks,
Mike
