There are a few problems with Mark's 258 Artwork. I've made to osc, trust
me on this
I have repaired the artwork, but unfortunately, the corrected art is on the
hard drive where I used to work and they are giving me real problems about
getting the info off my old computer.
Anyway, I can remember, there is either a resistor or a diode that's shorted
out - you'll see it in a second if you look at it. I believe actually its a
resistor NEAR the two diodes.
Second, down at the bottom of the board you'll see a pad with no trace on
it. this is an easy one to fix, as it's supposed to go directly across to
the adjacent pad, so a long component lead will fix this in a flash.
It's a fun little osc. Unfortunately, because he (smartly I must say)
didn't use the now unoptianium transistors, its does have the exact sound
you might be coveting, most importantly the wonderful FM via the ua726.
This is not to say it isn't a great circuit, which for the most part is
right out of electro notes vol. 1
I am working on one using all of the 258 parts, as I have (painfully)
collected all of the discontinued components.
