the very first thing you should build is an LFO. building voltage controlled 
circuits is no fun without a source of modulation. the LFO will also be very 
useful for testing other circuits as they are built. I recommend a simple 
triangle/square LFO with a range that extends into audio frequencies so it 
can also be used as a tone source. The 1st synth circuit I ever built is a 
dual LFO just like I have described and that unit lives on my workbench to 
this day and is used as a CV and tone source for every project i put to the 
breadboard.
