It's been in there since Windows 3.0 got the Multimedia extensions in... oh,
1990 or so... in theory, it can be used to re-map MIDI data to different
channels and/or output devices, but I know nobody who's ever used it :-)
If you have access to the underlying real MIDI Output drivers, use these.
The Midi Mapper is just another level of useless indirection, skipping it
will save some CPU cycles.
