That's always been the dilemma in developing experimental controllers.  You 
can't know if one is any good until you practice it for a fair amount of 
time.  That's one reason it makes sense to stay fairly close to what has 
already been developed for traditional instruments. (The other being 
transfer of existing technique.)  Not  to discourage anyone's efforts, of 
course.
