What I'm wondering is, whether it's possible to detect the orientation
(rotation) of the tagged objects placed on the control surface? This is a
feature that doesn't exist in the current implementation, but I wonder if
it's possible to add it somehow? That would give each object at least three
axis of simultaneous control. It would also help bridge the gap between
this interface and a traditional rotary knob interface, possibly making it
attractive to a larger group of users--those that absolutely need knobs to
feel at home.

I also wanted to say that this interface reminds me vaguely of control
surfaces used in "Minority Report" and a couple other futuristic movies
I've seen lately. I think that "Matrix Reloaded" also had a mock-up of an
advanced control surface in one of the "flight controller / mission
control" scenes. Funny how everyone else in Zion looked like primitive
savages living in crude huts, and the control room was futuristic--looking
like a laboratory clean room in comparison.

Maybe I should pay more attention to some of these movie scenes for a
little synth-DIY inspiration?
