You can try the links for each pictures individually, usually you'll 
find an archived copy from some other date. Once you've stitched it 
back together the page is almost like new... :-)

You could use META tags or a /robots.txt file to prevent either 
indexing or archiving or both, for a complete site or individual 
branches or pages. The archives delete pages when they're asked to do 
so by the (former) owner of the page. I don't know whether they really 
delete it or just make it inaccessible, though. I for one was glad that 
these archives exist as I could rescue one of my own pages that I had 
no other copy of when the university decided to pull the plug on my old 
account there.

But there's no telling how many copies are held by individuals and 
whether they would decide to re-publish it later. For instance, I still 
have that page as PDF, though I can not send it to anyone without 
permission of Dan Slater as it's copyrighted material. Then again, this 
article has been published in CMJ (Summer 1998), so it's just a matter 
of hunting down a library that has this issue. It might even be 
downloadable from the CMJ web pages, haven't checked that.
