I think it's similar to what happens with digital audio (sampling without
lowpass filtering the input). If the distance between adjacent
speakers/taps/whatever is much smaller than the wavelength of sound, then
the system is close to the case of a moving speaker. As the distance
approaches zero the system approaches the ideal case of a moving speaker.
