A diode 'or gate' current is set by the voltage that is applied
at the inputs... and the value of the pull-up or pull down resistor.

its just Ohms law.

The usual advantage is that it (may be) cheap, easy, easy to hack into
an existing circuit, tolerant of voltage level changes etc...

Down side... its not buffered, isolated, amplified etc... so in practical uses the pull-up or pull down tends tom make it operate
in the low milliamp ranges...

If you want an 'or' function of power supplies... diodes are VERY
good... especially at high voltages  ;^P
