The atMega128 is beefy enough... at least I think so..
I would use a DSP for sampling and stuff... especially if you are going to
do some resampling...
The only drawback is that you need to use some microcontroller or
microprocessor to control the dsp, since most dsps are no good at
controlling lcds, midi data, controllers etc.
