I use a mechanical tool called a "solder pullit".  There are various
manufacturers of these and they all work pretty much the same.  They have a
spring loaded plunger that locks into place when pushed into the tool. 
It's released with a button on the side.  Heat up the connection to flow,
put the tool's intake (a piece of heat resistant plastic tubing) as close
as you can or right on the connection, remove the iron and immediately push
the button.  Releasing the plunger causes the tool to vacuum out the liquid
solder.  You have to open and empty it from time to time.  Parts are
unsoldered one pin at a time.  Sometimes it requires more than one "hit". 
After doing all the pins, I take a small scredriver and push laterally
against the pin (on the solder side) to break the tiny piece of solder
that's left.  Once all of the leads are unsoldered, the part usually comes
out easily.  If you plan to use the part in something else, you need to be
mindful of how long the iron stays on the pin.
