[sdiy] Oscillator precision

This depends, like all in life.
For a little monophonic synth even 1% deviation at the
highest or lowest notes can be ok.
If you like "atonal" music, even 10% may be ok.

OTOH, if you want to play in tune with other electronic
instruments, that perhaps derive their frequency by digital means
(i.e. basically quartz and divider or phase acc),
then you want to know not the relative
error, but the absolute error in Hz.

A beating of 0.1Hz sounds quite good,
1Hz beating is strong, and 10Hz beating sounds allready wobbly...
The problem is that this absolute error will translate in difficult
relative error specs in the high note end...

Hi list,

What do you think the required precision for a control oscillator should be
for a high quality synth? If I have the note 'A' within 600 ppm, is that
OK??

thanks,

zoltan
