I think I remember that it ended up sounding pretty weird when it was
triggered by anything other than a really short sound, seems like keeps
being triggered over and over for as long as the trigger signal is above the
threshold.

actually this is probably a question not worthy of the expertise on this
list...but what would be the output voltage range on a commercial unit like
a d-110?

  You can probably trigger it from any drum machine with sepatare outs.
  I trigger a Pearl Syncussion SY-1 with my trusty TR-626. Works perfectly.
