I've switched to prototyping in surface mount using "Surfboards". I find it
much faster than through hole prototyping.
Since each surfboard holds one chip, it breaks down into function blocks
nicely. I drill the surfboards with a moto-tool and run wires across the
back for power rails. Building up each function block.
Then use double sided tape to mount the sufboards to an unetched piece of
regular PCB material as a ground plane (like the old "dead bug" method).
Short buss wire jumpers connect the ground plane to many ground points in a
circle around the surfboard. Then #30 flying leads to connect signal lines
and power rails.
Fast but only good for low voltage.
