One more possibility for panel graphics is Scotchprint film. You can print
any image on it, typically at 400 DPI. A clear protective film is optional.
Various colors are available. It is durable enough for vehicles and
billboards. Seems like it would wear better than some of the other DIY
methods.

OT: One version of the film is perforated. They cover entire buses (the
transportation type ;-) with it, including the windows, yet you can still
see out of the bus windows.
