Laurens Hammond, inventor of the Hammond organ, encouraged power companies
to tightly regulate the frequency of their generators. As a sneaky
incentive, he gave clocks to a lot of power company employees. These clocks
ran from a synchronous motor, and were another one of his inventions. If
the power company didn't regulate their frequency tightly, it threw their
new Hammond clocks off. :)
I suppose if it worried you a lot, you could always install a
quartz-controlled motor to drive the Hammond generator. At that point, the
Hammond generator would become a mechanical TOG and Divider combination,
for the high-frequency quartz oscillator.
