Something like that. The PV series basically is (with the exception of 
the newer PV-1600) an embedded V30 CPU (roughly equivalent to an 80286 
in real mode, used to have one in my XT years ago) with integrated 
peripherals. I haven't been able to determine if it's possible to 
produce a MIDI compatible baud rate with the onboard serial interface. 
If yes, then of course it's just a matter of a few level shifters and 
two opto couplers.

It's basically a complete computer around the touch screen. Very 
programmable, and some memory for programs and their data as well.

I'll plan to do that for testing and development, but I really don't 
like to run a PC while making music...
