If you haven't seen this tool, it might be useful or interesting to your 
work. This is a GPL'ed Gerber Viewer, part of the GNU EDA (gEDA) tool 
suite. It could possibly be useful because the Gerber spec is implemented 
in the source code. The place to find gerbv is here:
