You could try the free version of Emagic Logic, which you can get from the
education page on their website <http://www.emagic.de>.  It is called
"Logic Fun", and I believe is a cut-down version of v4.8.  Should be
enough to record your tapes.  Being a bit dated it should work fine on
your older system.
