If you use a Dremel tool, there are flexible extension shafts available.
Some of the higher-end rotary tools (non-Dremel) even come with these
permanently attached. Using one of these, and suspending the actual Dremel
motor above the plotter from a hook, would greatly reduce the mass that the
plotter had to move around.
