I have used that topology with several transformers
that i got dirt cheap (10 DM for 24 pcs.) 220V/17.2V 1A
transformers. The output voltage here was about 180...190 V,
when two transformers were directly connected.
I also used 2 in parallel, and the other 2 in series to get
approx. 375 V - works fine, but the pad-per-hole board holding
4 transformers was very close to the limits in it´s mechanical
stability.
