well, after checking the (incomplete) service manual, i got everything
figured out. the cs10 is back among the living! the pitch bend and
portamento sliders aren't working yet, but that may be because it's only
possible to control this thing via the cv/gate ins on the back. no more
keyboard!

but what a nice synth this is. very nice and round tone, a nice addition to
the rest i have. i love the filter! nice lowlass, but also very cool band-
and highpass. it's the only one where turning up the resonance actually
makes it sound a lot better. it doesn't self-oscillate, but boy does it
sound nice. add a filter eg that has initial level/attack level/attack time
and you have the recipe for some very nice bass sounds. with these controls
you can do all sorts of things at the 'front end' of a bass sound in a
detail most other mono's don't have. and the eg can be triggered by
incoming audio as well as the normal trigger in, which is a nice touch. i
was truly surprised by the versatility ofthis machine.

1 issue remains: vco tuning. can anyone confirm if this thing is 1v/oct? or
is it hz/volt? i know it has the inverted gate. but now, it doesn't seem to
be in tune if i use it via 1v/oct. or maybe it needs some internal trimming.
linked to that is the fact that it seems to be tuned too high: to get any
low sounds at all, the range setting needs to be at 64', at which rate the
oscillator should be ticking. it has a range from 64' to 2', but it seems to
be tuned too high in general. any thoughts on this, anyone?

all in all, it feels good to have this synth brought back from the dead. and
i probably own the only cs10 expander in the world..;-)
