In the late 70's I used an old Sharp pocket calculator, with gas
discharge display and a little Philips AM radio to compose some tunes. 

Didn't know exactly what was happening (and the calculator is gone, I'll
never know...), but maybe the high voltage from the display driver
circuit generated high-order harmonics that was "leaking" and tuned by
the radio.
