These things are VERY rare. They were used as classroom demonstrators to show
how triodes work. Varying the grid bias causes the glowing stripes on the
plate to
widen or narrow as the plate current varies.

As usual, this guy isn't an expert and has errors in his description.
Why he put "Western Electric" in the title is obvious--eBay idiots
see what people pay for Western tubes, so they ALL put the name
in their tube description. This device has piss-all to do with Western Electric.

And I find it amazing that the idiot hooked it up to his Cary Audio SE
300B amp in order to LISTEN to music thru this rare collectible.
This would be akin to some yee-haw buying a Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost
and saying "gonna drop a small-block V8 in that thang, gonna drive it
around tha trailer park!! It don' go fast enuf!!!" (then starts picking
his nose and passing wind).....
