Bert,
1) Stick with the PhD. It gets harder as you get older (I sometimes wish
I had done mine straight after my undergrad).
2) The PhD will open far more doors to you than without...check out how
many technology company directors have PhDs. Why be a sales gimp when you
can be the guy tugging their sales targets and watching them jump?!
3) The point of a PhD is _not_ to change the world with your exciting new
ideas. Its (a) to show that you can stick at something and see it
through, (b) to impress the chicks at parties, and (c) you get to put
"Dr." in front of your name (handy for when talking to a bank
manager). Note: these points are not mine, I was told them by various
high-ranking academics here. Go figure.
