The first synth I ever played was the quirky Roland SH-1000. This little
synth never seems to get mentioned these days. Was it that bad, or is it a
case of being an unusual and overlooked item?
It's been several years since I had it, but I seem to remember thinking
that it sounded a bit like a 303, if you wanted it to. (I also modded mine,
to add a bit of overdrive--for those occasions when I wanted it.) I'll
admit that my memory of the unit is a bit fuzzy at this point, but I have
some feelings of nostalgia for the SH-1000. It was my first synth, after all.
I've been thinking of cloning the filter section, and seeing what I come up
with. I still have the service manual laying around. Does anyone think it's
a crazy idea? I mean, there might be a good reason why no one talks about
the SH-1000 these days. :)
Does anyone else remember the SH-1000? (Hint: It was the first "commercial"
synth Roland sold in America, possibly the first they sold anywhere.)
later,
Glen
