Hi all,
As most of you are aware from my postings to the list, I'm currently in the
process of getting together all of the components and tools needed to build
various ASM etc modules.
The other weekend I was on a local car boot sale and a guy was selling an
old 1970 Tektronix D52 oscilloscope for £10.
I thought for the price and and as a first oscilloscope to play around with,
it would be OK and so bought it.
I got it home and plugged it in and much to my amazement it worked... well
for 5 minutes anyway!.
There was a puff of smoke from inside the case and as I peered in, one of
the valves seemed to have a bit of an unhealthy glow to it.
I quickly switched it off to take a look inside properly and it seems that a
capacitor close to the valve has been burning causing the smoke.
The valve seems to be OK as there is no white residue located at the top of
it, but of course that's no gaurantee that it's not blown.
My question is does anybody know if the valves are still available for this
(if the one in question has died) as most of the parts are replacable, the
CRT is in excellent condition (when it worked) and I don't really want to
throw it in the bin if I can help it.
Regards
Steven
PS Luckily I have the owners manual and the schematics, so in theory
repairing it shouldn't be too hard (parts permitting).
