Hi Rainer,

Probably the only reason I would go with an older, outdated architecture is 
ignorance. :-)  Thanks a ton for your advice!!  There seems to be a plethora 
of Atmel AVR microcontrollers.  It'll take a while to select one, but I'm up 
to the challenge!

Not bad, not bad at all.  It looks like the programmer kit only costs $75.00
