Bret,

If all your going to do is sample an input, mix it up
and spit it out, perhaps you don't need a uP at all.
Taking samples from an audio ADC and storing them in
memory is simple. Then the mixup on output could just
be re-arrenging the address lines on the RAM where the
samples are stored. If I were doing this (and it just
make onto my ever-expandind list), I'd use some CPLDs
to handle the logic and shifting needed. Sounds like
fun!
