Actually this morphing is very easy with a pot... it is really a pretty GOOD
variable resistance... the end resistance is usually an ohm or so (or less) so
in
a 100K pot the percentage error is really small. And it has NO offset voltage,
leakage etc. Temperature variations probably affect both sides at one...

The hard part is to replace this circuit with one that electronically emulates
this
simple (lovely) three terminal device.  That's the rub

(and Vactrols don't do it well...)
