OK, how about this for a weird, retro sort of idea:

Build a complete voltage-controlled synthesizer, using only 
electro-acoustic components. So spinning turbines, etc. for 
oscillators, linear actuators controlling acoustic gates 
for VCAs, VCFs and other affects, and whatever else such as 
variable resonant chambers and horns. Solenoid-driven 
percussion could also be included. Use high performance DC 
servo motor drives to control it quickly and accurately.

So who's got some time?
