I've built two of them as kits, and there are many others
who have built the kits as well. I have studied these
schematics quite extensively and have found no errors
nor have I heard of anyone else discovering errors.
It's going to be a big project I think and for the amount
of work you will put into it, I would suggest a modular
design, such as the ASM-1. Many here can help with
getting the ASM-1 running properly. I believe that the
ASM-1 is only the analog synth part and has no integrated
MIDI->CV converter, however, there are schematics and
code available for those. People here have made those
with various microcontrollers.
I would be more inclined to suggest the FatMan as a first
synth to be built as a kit from PAiA, perhaps with a
custom front panel. Much can still be learned from doing
this and from adding modifications.
