Go here:
Electronics Surplus places:
All Electronics
There are two of them, one in the San Fernando Valley at the corner of
Oxnard and Kester. The other one is on Vermont in LA by at about 2nd street
or so. Pay with cash, they somehow forget to charge tax and count the parts
in your favor.
Apex
On San Fernando Rd in San Fernando (in the Northeast Valley). Bring a crash
helmet in case of an earthquake. Unbelievable (dis)array of every gizmo
ever made for a plane, video deck, audio function generator, missle for all
I know. Great for very cheap power supplies (once got a +/- 15 Lamba .6 amp
for $15!!!) and old knobs. Everything is surplus. Put your haggling hat
on. Nothing has a sticker on it - take advantage of it
Synth/Gear Surplus places:
Big City Music:
45,000 square miles of every imaginable vintage synth ever produced, plus
great new gear from Analogue Systems, Vernona, Analogue Solutions, Moog
among others. The owner, Roger Cordell, is a great guy. He has two
locaitons, one very close to the other - both in North Hollywood (Valley).
Future Music
On Sunset by the big Guitar Center. Not as equipped as it used to be for
synth stuff, but they got it there. Mucho rack equipment. A lot of stuff
in really crappy condition.
Black Market
One San Vincente by Santa Monica Blvd. Huge inventory of synths, rack
equipment, guitars, amps. All used, some very used. Sticker prices are
bullshit ($3600 for a two voiced SEM? -- $850 for a TX816??) - they will
work deals for the cash customer however.
While you're here, give me a call and let's have a little get together.
I'll show ya Milton and some of the other things I'm working on (you'll have
to ask you to look into a MIB memory eraser after however).
Hope this helps,
Peter

I will be in the L.A. area for the next 2 weeks & wondered if any list
members could recommend any electronic surplus/junk stores I can visit while
there.
Anything in the SoCal vicinity would be great, as I'll be all over the
place.
BTW, looks like I'll be able to make it to the SDIY meeting in Goleta this
Saturday, so I'll look forward to meeting some of you PSW DIYers!
best regards,
Mike Brown
