Hello,
I noticed this thing called Pixter (Mattel/Fisher-Price) in an ad for
around 50 EUR and went to look at it. Unfortunately the batteries on
the demo unit were dead, so I have no first hand experience. Technical
information is scarce, but I did find out that the LCD display is
supposed to be 80x80 pixels around 1mm large, the touch screen has
probably a slightly higher resolution as there are some "buttons" off
screen. Does anybody know what kind of CPU and other stuff is in there?
The CPU itself can't be too shoddy, then there must be some memory,
perhaps even Flash (I guess we'd want to skip the sound output, but
then maybe it could be used as well). If one could modify the software
cartridges and the hardware to connect to the outside, this would
probably on of the cheapest DIY options if you're looking for a touch
sensitive input device with a graphic display.
Apparently there is a Plus model with a "worm" light and more memory
and a 2.0 model with an IRDA transceiver to link to other Pixters that
would be even more interesting, but the ones I've looked at were plain
versions.
Any thoughts, experiences or links to technical information is welcome,
I'll summarize if I get worthwhile feedback.
Achim.
