Hi,

As for PCB, if you're using toner transfers, stay away from 10mil traces. 
Make them as thick as you can--30mil is fine. Even if you transfer it to the 
pcb and some traces "spread out" from the transfer process you can always 
use an Xact-o knife to scrape away the toner and avoid shorts.

I use Mac at home for schematic/PCB. I have DesignWorks for schematic and 
use Protel Autotrax for layout. Protel doesn't support Mac anymore though :(
